It is so rewarding to see your work in print. So yesterday when a big heavy book arrived on my doorstep I was super excited to open it up and see my designs beautifully photographed inside Fabric-by-Fabric One Yard Wonders. My projects include the Kaleidoscope Table Runner on page 150, and the Speedy Ruffle Scarf on page 336.
This is the second book authored by Rebecca Yaker and Patricia Hoskins... and it's a great rival to their first. The projects are fresh and fun and best of all there is a variety for every level of sewing. Fabric-by-Fabric focuses on uses for types of fabrics many of us haven't dabbled in like knits, voiles, oilcloth, wool and more.... and with all the new designer prints becoming available in these different materials it's such a great resource for learning how to use them.
Today I'm giving away a copy of the book to one lucky girl... or boy I guess :D. Just leave your entry below by answering this question. What is one type of fabric OR medium you've been dying to learn to work with, but haven't bit the bullet yet?
For me that is leather. I could talk about it for ages why I haven't yet, but that is another topic. I just can't decide if it is the right fit for me considering where is comes from and all. And not to make any wrong impressions... I own leather shoes, boots, a jacket and other home objects, but sewing with it myself seems much more personal. It sounds strange I know, but it's a decision I have not committed to yet in either direction.
The winner will be selected randomly on 12/24/11 around noon central time. Please note that this giveaway is only available for residents of the USA. Good luck and thanks for visiting!

I don't know if this necessarily answers the specific question, but I would love to start making quilts. Just haven't had the time, space, etc. Now that I'm an empty nester, I have all (but time!) to learn.

ReplyDeleteMine would be knits. I love things out of knits, but the one time I tried sewing with it, it got all bunched up in the machine. I haven't attempted a second time!

I haven't worked with silk yet, or really anything other than cotton, felt, and t-shirts. I'm really hoping to branch out this year. Thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeleteI too would love to work with leather. It's just so expensive to do real leather. What if I screw it up? I probably just need to bite the bullet one day.

ReplyDeleteThe soft, knit type of sweatshirt fabric. I got a large piece thrifting and keep looking at it, but haven't cut into it yet. Such a pretty pink too.
ReplyDeleteThere are a number of different fabrics I want to start working with that I haven't. To start with I would love to work with oilcloth and have some sitting in my fabric stash. Congratulations on the book! It looks amazing.
